- The village of Zaleski is at a turning point as it strives to build a tourism-based economy. Their story is iconic as it includes the influence of a Polish Count along with mining and railroad history. Zaleski has not been able to cash in on the one million plus visitors Lake Hope has or the surging popularity of the Hocking Hills region. The Vinton County Convention and Visitors Bureau hopes to change that with a railroad museum and a new parking lot on the Moonville Rail Trail. The CVB is hoping the Fisher Building will be renovated into a restaurant a concert hall-- and a convenience store retailer will locate there. Eureka Spring, Arkansas, Floyd, Virginia, and Nashville, Indiana areas could be roadmaps to follow. They all have tourism-based economies and regional draws. The CVB and Zaleski officials will keep working to expand tourism.
